In Karamoja, Uganda, thousands of people face a daily struggle just to access something as basic and essential as clean water. Many families, including young children and the elderly, are forced to walk miles under the scorching sun just to fetch a small amount of water. The water often from unsafe sources that can lead to disease and long-term health problems. This heartbreaking situation is a reality for many communities across the region.

We all know that sadaqah jariyah is a blessed form of charity that comes with infinite benefits for us both in this life and in the hereafter. It is the gift that keeps on giving. The small spark from which a flame may burst. And, if giving one glass of water is still the best sadaqah, can we imagine how many blessings we can earn by building a constant source of water for the ummah?

When you donate a water well or a water pump, you give the community a future. Since the ummah relies on water not only for drinking but also for washing, cooking, hydrating their animals, and watering their crops, your gift ensures a sustainable future for everyone in the community and for the community as a whole.

By building clean water wells, we can bring lasting change to these communities. A reliable and safe water source close to their homes means children can focus on education instead of long, exhausting journeys. Mothers can spend more time caring for their families instead of worrying about water. Most importantly, it means saving lives by reducing waterborne illnesses and ensuring better hygiene and sanitation for everyone.

By giving impoverished communities access to water is also the best kind of sadaqah jariyah because it enables the poor to fulfill their obligation to Allah SWT and perform wudhu and this undoubtedly the best benefit for the ummah. Our Prophet SAW reveals it by saying, "The Muslim ummah is like one body. If the eye is in pain, then the whole body is in pain, and if the head is in pain, then the whole body is in pain."

So, how can we separate ourselves from the struggles of our brothers and sisters when Allah SWT has made us in togetherness?

Having access to water is a fundamental human right, and satisfying this right is the best kind of sadaqah.
